How the Migrate User Wizard Works
The Migrate User Wizard creates a text file that is
stored on floppy disk and sent via "sneaker net" (i.e. you walk
the disk over) from the NT Server 4.0 system to the Small Business Server
4.5 system. (Note: The Migrate User Wizard cannot capture this
information form another Small Business Server 4.0 or 4.5 system.)
The exported information includes the following
information from users accounts on that server.
The Migrate User Wizard does not allow you to
export user passwords, Internet access permissions, or Exchange
distribution lists. The Migrate User Wizard is run from the Small Business Server
4.5 CD-ROM #1 on an NT Server 4.0 system.
If the CD-ROM does not autorun, you'll need to launch the
setup program, which copies the NT user accounts and related information
to a floppy disk. The exported data is stored in a text file, which can be
edited if you wish to remove certain user accounts prior to importing on
the Small Business Server 4.5 system.
Transferring User Accounts with the Migrate User Wizard
By running the Small Business Server 4.5 Migrate User
Wizard on an NT Server 4.0 system, you can export user account
information to a text file.
Then from the Small Business Server Console, simply launch
the Import Users Wizard from the To Do list.
The user accounts from the NT Server 4.0 system are then
read from the diskette into the registry of the Small Business Server 4.5
system. Once complete, all of your imported user account information will
be visible within both the Small Business Server User Account Wizard and
the NT Server 4.0 User Manager for Domains.
Bottom Line: By running the Import User Wizard from the Small Business Server
4.5 Console To Do List, you can import user account information from an NT
Server 4.0 system.
