Microsoft went to great pains in its Small Business Sever
NOS suite to make it as simple as possible.
As a result Small Business Sever (SBS) includes a number
of interesting and useful default systems configurations... even back in
the days of SBS 4.5.
For example, SBS 4.5 eases setup and administration for
novice small business computer consultants and end users by defaulting
certain "desirable" Exchange Server 5.5 settings.
Because SBS 4.5, like its predecessor, is designed to
operate as the sole Exchange organization and site, SBS 4.5 disables
directory replication and synchronization. |

By defaulting this choice, SBS 4.5 conserves memory and
drive space.
Other Small Business Server Default Configurations
There are several other SBS 4.5 default settings that make
it possible for less experienced small business computer consultants to
properly install an SBS 4.5 network.
-
Video screen resolution defaults to 800x600 (required
by the Server Console).
-
TCP/IP protocol installed by default and the only
protocol on the server and workstations on an SBS network. Of course,
if desired, additional protocols can be adde.
-
WINS used for client name resolution.
-
Installation folder is \WINNT.SBS
-
NTFS file system
-
Server type: primary domain controller (additional NT
Servers can be added as either backup domain controllers or
stand-alone servers)
-
Domain trust relationships disabled
